Baby Lawson

Hello and welcome back! Today I am sharing some of Lawson's newborn photos and a few details about his birth.

When we took these photos he was still a very sleepy baby and for whatever reason when I got him up to take these photos he was not very happy. You can't really tell in the photos, but he wouldn't stop crying unless he had his pacifier and he even peed on his books from the second photo. Luckily we got through it and have these beautiful photos to look at and laugh remembering what was going on behind the scenes.

Lawson arrived on January 6, 2018 at 2:31pm after 12 hours of natural birth. He weighed 9lbs 5oz and measured 21.5 inches long. I had been to my midwife the afternoon of the 5th for my weekly appointment. After a cervical exam my midwife let me know that I was 2-3cm dilated, 90% effaced, and the baby was in 1+ station. All that sounded like the baby could come at any moment, but she told me to not get excited that I could stay like that for a week or two. My due date was the 8th and I thought I would for sure be over due since he was my first. To my surprise my water broke at 2:00am Saturday morning. I called my midwife to let her know I was in labor and she asked us to meet her at the birth center at 4:30am. My contractions started out about 20-30 minutes apart and by the time we left our house for the birth center they were 3-5 minutes apart. I labored until about 11am when I became fully dilated. I felt like I needed to push and started to, but not much was happening. My midwife suggested I get some sleep for a bit so I could rest up for when I would start pushing again. I slept until around noon and then started pushing again. I pushed for 2.5 hours and he was born at 2:31pm. All 9 pounds of him!

Becoming a Mother is completely indescribable and obviously life changing. I love that boy like nothing else in this world and I worry about him like a crazy lady {already}. No one ever mentioned to me the instant anxiety you experience after becoming a mom. I don't know if that is normal for everyone, but the moms I have spoke to make it seem like it is. It definitely makes me appreciate my Momma even more, and make me a bit sorry for being a totally terrible teenager. Sorry Mom!

If you have any questions for me about my labor or delivery send me a message or comment on my IG photos! @alinamsmith
